Big news for my upcoming ski year….I decided it was time to finally retire my K2 Public Enemies from a fews years yonder and invest in some new dreamy twin tips.  After much debate and fuss, I finally decided that I wanted to rock the Line Prophet 100s.  To my benefit, I found a willing seller of just such a pair in my desired length!

Here is how they look in all their glory….

Here is a snap of the top and bottom:

I generally dislike all Christmas related music, as it’s basically themed children’s music.  Now that every Christmas song been beaten into the ground, the “Glee” brainwashing franchise wants to pile on and convince the Mrs. that their album is of purchase quality.  That being said, this is a Christmas song that I can dig.  It knows how painfully awful it needs to be to transcend the predictable/funny threshold.  It is also brought to you by one of my favorite programs out there, Comedy Death Ray Radio.   Joy to the world.

So back in March, the Mrs. and my brother-in-law (or broinlaw) went to see a few artists at a small Phoenix club.  The turnout was dismal, but that wasn’t the fault of either act that played.  I still listen to both artists occasionally and am always impressed at how they both still hold up after so many plays.    Here is a couple videos from the rising star, Toro Y Moi.  ENJOY :)

One Eyedea

As you may know, I’ve been a huge fan of indie hip-hop for years now.  We definitely lost a truly gifted musician when Eyedea (Micheall Larsen) passed away last month.  I saw him live twice and he was seriously the BEST freestyler I’d ever heard.  He could come up with rhymes on the spot for just about anything and make it sound both purposeful and effortless.  I have been following him for quite awhile now and his work has always been very introspective and inquisitive.   Great talent gone too early…

So the Mrs. and I went and had a blast watching Junip and company on Tuesday at a very intimate, cozy venue in central Phoenix.  The opening act, Sharon Van Etten, was surprisingly fun as well.  She is something of a Cat Power / Beth Orton style mix.  The crowd atmosphere was perfect and really added to show…everyone seemed just as enthralled to be witnessing greatness.  Here is a few photos we snapped during our night.  I also included one of my favorite songs from their new album, Fields.

This song has been stuck on repeat for almost a week.  Never gets old, never loses its grip.  Close your eyes….turn the volume up…..goosebumps.

Here is a song that has been sticking with me over the past week….let me share.

First up, one of my favorite “tormented” artists of all time, Cage, has graced the new Kid Cudi album.  Yes, that same Kid Cudi that already has the current #1 album on Itunes.  I was slightly hesitant about liking anything that popular (even though the Mrs. can attest to my short obsession with “Day N’ Nite”), but trust me this song doesn’t disappoint.   Its a hypnotic jam also featuring St. Vincent on the vocal loop.

Just in case you were in a cave with the Chilean miners for like a year and never heard this song, here is Day ‘N’ Night.

Now here is the song I referenced, Maniac….

…..paint the black hole….blacker….paint the black hole blacker
